Yet Abraham encouraged them to become dedicated musicians by his determination. Abraham Senior was one of the members of the band Los Dinos. Selena Y Los Dinos formed officially in 1981. It was a company of the family and was the primary source of income for the family. Although there were tough times in the beginning, with a lack of funds, the Quintanilla family persevered and remained focused with their efforts to become a successful band. Selena Y Los Dinos achieved popularity throughout the Western states by the end of the 1980s. In 1986 the band got their first taste of success when Selena received awards for Female Vocalist of the Year as well as The Best Performer Award at the Tejano music awards. Selena Y Los Dinos gained popularity and recognition following that. They appeared on a variety of Spanish-language television programs such as El Show De Johnny Canales as well as Siempre En Domingo or Sabado Gigante.
